WebRing Announces...
Personal Storage & Webspace
It's here! Your own online storage for files and web pages, and it's completely free!

This long anticipated service provides you with multiple folders, a rich text editor, a content management system (CMS), and various levels of privacy settings. You can use your personal storage to collaborate on projects with colleagues or to share pictures with friends and family. You have complete control over who sees and accesses which files, if anyone.

Plus, your personal storage is the perfect place to backup your files online. Imagine no more need for flash drives or discs. All you need to access your files is a way to connect to the internet.

We've allotted each member an exceptional amount of space. Free members get 50 MB, and premium members receive a whopping 1 GB worth of storage!

Need more space? Upgrade to the premium membership level, or if you're already WebRing 2.0, contact us.

What is Webspace?
This is your space to create or upload webpages. Build your homepage, create a photo gallery, add a storefront... your options are pretty wide open. So, how does Webspace work?

It's quite simple really. Anything you upload to your Webspace folder in your personal storage will automatically be put online for all to see. For a simple explanation on how to use your Webspace refer to this newsletter page page, or here for more details.

You can use the CMS screen to upload multiple files and pages at once, or to create a new site completely from scratch. We have plans to provide templates for ease of use in the near future.

Server-side scripts like .php and perl are among the few restrictions that you have when it comes to using your Webspace to host your site. You can, of course, include JavaScript code like the WebRing NavBar.

GeoCities Is Closing Down!
The release of WebRing Webspaces couldn't have come at a better time. Yahoo! recently announced that they will be shutting GeoCities down forever, possibly as soon as the end of summer in the northern hemisphere. Want to save your GeoCities site? Move it to your free Webspace today!

The WebRing Invitation Drive

For the entire month of May, we are increasing how much you can earn for successfully inviting new members

Your Personal Invitation Page
Invitations from someone you know are generally better received than generic ones. That's why we've activated personal invitation landing pages.

Anytime you invite someone to join WebRing, they will be sent to your personal invitation page. On this page, you can supply a custom welcome message that directly addresses the people you've invited.

Hit the Progressive Jackpot
To add some excitement to this invitation drive, we thought it would be fun to create a progressive jackpot of sorts. The way it works is simple: the more new members who sign up, the greater the final amount of awarded Activity Points will be.

The pot starts at a generous 400 AP, and we will award a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner. As the pot grows, so will the number of winners with 4th, 5th, and 6th place winners incrementally added.

The overall winner will earn massive amounts of Activity Points!

Weekly Winners!
Additionally, we plan to randomly select winners of weekly prizes. These prizes may be AP or something from the Rewards Room. You never know what you'll win!

WebRing Tech Tip
Vertical NavBar Now Available
Have you long wished for a slimmer version of the NavBar? Perhaps you have a blog and want to move the NavBar up higher in your sidebar, but it just won't fit?

You'll be excited to learn that we now offer a vertical version of the NavBar. And if you use the SSNB, you don't even need to reinstall it on your site!

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Go to the URLs tab of your My Account page.
  2. Locate the URL on which you wish to use the vertical NavBar.
  3. Click the "edit settings" link below the URL.
  4. Scroll down and check the box next to this sentence: "Check here if you would like to use the vertical version of the navbar, if it's available."
  5. Scroll down and click the "change" button.
Now, all you need to do is move the NavBar to your site's sidebar. Remember, you don't need any new code, as long as you're using the SSNB version.
